The Reason Cell Phones Are Taking Over The World

In this article we will explore the reasons why cell phones are gaining in popularity by such huge numbers it is staggering. In the last 5 years they have dominated the way we communicate as a society. The price is better, they are versatile and flexible and they are downright entertaining. Even I have one in my pocket right now while I am in my office AT HOME! Does this make any sense?

The price of cell phones has come down to the point where they are affordable even to those with low incomes. All three of my daughters have their own pay as you go cell phones that they buy minute cards with their allowances. When they run out of minutes, they stop talking! The cell phone in my pocket is a pay as you go cell phone and I only spend about $80 a year for minute cards. For me the cell phone is just for when I am out of the office. I would get rid of my land line but you can not advertise in the phone book with a cellular number so business owners are stuck with a land line forever.

The size of the unit has gotten comfortable to carry. The phones in rural areas were called bag phones. They were the size of those old metal children lunch boxes! They were a soft leather padded, zippered beast weighing in at about 4 pounds. They were so big that when you went to the grocery store you would put your phone in the childs seat. Now realize that this was only back in 2004, not that long ago.

My brother and I had a vending and pay phone company during the first surge of cell phones and it was great. The cell plans were so expensive that people would speak for only a few seconds and hang up. They would then go to the nearest payphone and call the person back. Local calls were only a quarter on a payphone and cell plans were 25-50 cents a minute. Off time was cheaper than prime time back then much like the free evenings and weekends are now so you avoided the prime time minutes like the plague.
Things sure have changed.

And of course they are fun to play with. Apps and games galore, the newest ones have so many features it comes with an instruction catalog. No simple little instruction manual any more, you better have a degree in electronics engineering. I wonder how many people out there actually use every feature of the phone. When I want something done I simply hand it to a daughter and ask. They do what I need done to the phone…..while texting with the other hand!

So go out there and get with the big movement, get a portable devise of some kind, get one of those ear clip Bluetooth things so you too can be cool. Search for deals on pay as you go cell phones then compare the monthly payment plans. Soon you will figure out which devise will be the most cost effective and fun toy for you.
