AMD Phenom X4 840 and Phenom X4 975 Black Edition
processors came out on fourth day of the new year 2011. These are, first, a new top model with the model name Phenom X4 Black Edition 975. We had already speculated that AMD would bring to the Phenom X4 Black Edition 970 probably no more new tetra-nuclear Phenom among the people and thus were not right - what pleased us exceptionally. Appears to be from the demand, despite the availability of six-core processors for more and even faster quad-core CPUs are still strong enough to once again set a shovel on it at the top. But the midfield is doing something in the four core qualities. AMD quad-core sales the previous three series. found at the top, often with free multipliers equipped models of the Phenom X4 900 series ("Deneb", 6 MB L3 cache) and at the lower end of the tetra-nuclear product range, the Athlon X4 processors the 600 series ("Propus", no L3 cache) are located. In between, AMD had been settled three quad-cores of the 800 series ("Deneb", 4 MB L3 cache).
Phenom X4 975 Black Edition: Technical
What the new AMD Phenom X4 Black Edition processor is concerned, the technical details of the previous models are already well known. The number cruncher, code-named "Deneb" comes from one of the wafers that are exposed with the mask for the C3 stepping. This may to some readers might sound like "station", but put simply it means but only that it is the most advanced production technology from AMD for these CPUs.
The clock of the Phenom X4 975 Black Edition quad-core is at 3.6 GHz to 100 MHz located higher than the previous flagship Phenom X4 Black Edition 970. Otherwise, the specifications regarding the cache sizes and configurations: 128 KB L1 Cache, 512 KB L2 cache per core on quad-cores required, in addition have the Phenom processors (as opposed to the Athlons) for a Level 3 (L3 ) cache, shared by all cores and through which they can directly communicate with each other. The maximum power (TDP) of the Phenom X4 975 Black Edition is the well for AMD's respective flagship usual 125 watts.
Phenom X4 840: Technical
When AMD Phenom X4 840 we meet with the technical details then but at the unusual. Already in the introduction, we had the presence and size of the L3 cache as a key differentiator between processors of the Athlon 900 series and 800 series, or whether a CPU is now an "Athlon" or a "Phenom". The model numbers correspond to AMD, as a rule the following scheme: +5 means more 100 MHz, +10 then 200 MHz. Thus, the Phenom X4 associates with the number 840 and its 3.2 GHz then also logical in the 800-series one, regards the timing of the cores. Technically, it corresponds, because "Propus", but a previously available "Amd Athlon X4 650", and not a Phenom II. Even if it one or the other whether these tricks regurgitates acid: From AMD's perspective it makes sense. The omission of Level 3 cache saves production costs and the maximum heat still falls within the range of 95 watts - a "Deneb" with 6 MB L3 cache, and also 3.2 GHz (Phenom X4 955) allows itself as even 125 watts and the strong suspicion that a "Deneb" with only 4 MB L3 cache can no longer manage with 95 watts. Phenom X4 975 Black Edition: Overclocking
To overclock the AMD Phenom X4 975 II is designed and made extra (Note: warranty expired anyway).
