Review of the Samsung A640 for Bell Mobility

At first glance, the Samsung A640 Flip Phone is a Classic Black and bold phone. It has a sleek, slim design that will fit your palm and your pocket with ease. It displays the time and date in cool blue on its sleek, glossy exterior.

A closer look will tell you more: the features of this phone are as good as you can get.

The Samsung A640’s most appealing features—and some of the features most highly rated by users—are its crystal-clear voice quality and its speakerphones. These are firsts in a flip phone. In addition, the VGA camera in the A640 boasts a flash, digital zoom, a self-timer, and brightness control, all of which enable you to take good—even if not the best—pictures. And the A640 also comes with Bluetooth® wireless connectivity that enables you to connect with compatible PCs and hands-free systems.

The Samsung A640 flip phone gets its multimedia options right, too, with its ability to play videos and 3-D games. While you are speaking on the phone, you can run applications, as well.

Another appealing feature of the Samsung A640 is voice-activated dialling. This function works so well that you can blindly trust the A640 to automatically browse through your phonebook, select the number, and dial it for you at the very moment you are voicing the phone entry name or number. At times, voice-activated dialling performs even better than speed dialling.

The flip side of the Samsung A640 flip phone is that while you can watch your favourite videos, you cannot video-capture your favourite moments. Also, while the VGA camera takes good pictures, it does not come with an essential memory slot expansion.

In addition, a common complaint with the Samsung A640 has been its poor battery performance. The A640 must be charged on a daily basis. While the specifications guarantee a battery life of three hours, the A640 quickly runs out of battery life, even with basic calling activities, not to mention the use of applications and camera. While a portable car charger can help keep the battery charged, the short battery life is one area in which the A640 has not scored well.

And, overall, while the Samsung A640 offers the features of a high-end phone, such as Bluetooth connectivity, a VGA camera, and multimedia options, it does only a moderately good job on the quality of these features.

But despite these drawbacks, the Samsung A640 gets the basic phone function right: crystal clear voice communication. The voice clarity and voice quality of the A640 flip phone stand out as its best features. Because of its relatively low price and stylish looks, this phone has found favour primarily with younger users.

Most users agree: The Samsung A640 is worth the buck. Its stylish futuristic look and its high-end-phone features make it a worthwhile purchase.
