What to say when someone calls you a slut?
How do you respond when someone calls you a slut? The people that usually do are very unintelligent and I am looking for witty or just educated retorts.
Whenever I have been called names, the response that works the best is the one that leaves them powerless to hurt you further (which is their intent - to hurt you and/or cause a reaction.) Unfortunately, ignoring people who call you names doesn't always work.
The two things I have found that has stopped name-callers in my experience (when I was in school) was A. agree with them (they don't expect that) or B. Thank them.
I was getting bullied by some boys on the way home from school once and they kept calling me "ugly." Until I finally stopped and said, "I know, I get it from my dad." They couldn't think of a response and never bothered me again. (I'm not ugly, and wasn't really then, I just had very intense eyes.)
I had another couple of incidents in school where I was called a witch or was told I'd be good in a horror movie. My response, "Thank you. I'd love to be in a horror movie." Thanking them, took away their power to get under my skin. I was never bothered again after these two separate incidents.
(Last laugh is on them, I am currently playing the femme fatale villainess in a horror movie now.)
Anyway, for your situation, being called a "slut" is not something you'll probably want to agree with or thank them for. But I think you can twist the "thank you" response with some creativity. Maybe something like...
"Thank you! I didn't realize other people found my life so interesting."
or
"Thank you! It's nice of you to think my life is that kind of interesting."
I'm sure there are other such responses you can come up with. The important thing with coming up with such a response is to say it with sincerity or honesty in your voice - and without any hint of sarcasm. Sarcasm just invites further insults. And you'll want to avoid seeming to think too much of yourself by calling yourself "hot" or "sexy" since that will also invite further taunts. And you don't want to turn around and insult them back, since that will just continue the battle. You want to shut them down and leave them no further weapons.
It's a fine line, but you can definitely shut down bullies, since ignoring these people won't always make them stop.
