Hands on Motorola Droid 2

Verizon, Google and Motorola are more Next generation of the Droid this Wednesday, but got their hands on two and a little droid too early. This phone may look exactly the same as its predecessor on the outside but packs a 1 GHz processor speed in the middle.

Somehow, the phone fell into my hands so ran it for a few quick points of reference to see what you can expect. Read and see if this phone is worth the upgrade to the original owners Droid.

Hands on If someone has seen through this phone and I did not know that it Droid 2, it would be easy to confuse it with the first version. Both phones are on the same physical size, shape and weight. Even using the exact same battery.

on the outside not much has changed since the original droid with the exception of the upper frame around the display and redesigned keyboard. Top frame is now silver and descends in the bottom of the phone to cover the entire bottom half.

Keyboard there are four rows, but eliminated the pad so the keys are a bit wider. Each key is also the question, which gives him some interesting opinions in writing.

Original Droid is black with gold points, and Droid 2 is dark blue with silver metal elements. The overall style is very similar so it probably will not change the original sentence(or hatred, or not like).

Performance is the main area of improvement over the original. Droid featured a 550 MHz TI OMAP3430 and Droid 2, 1 GHz TI OMAP3630. Both processors are built from identical ARM Cortex-A8 cores and equipped with the same SGX530 PowerVR graphics processor.

In addition to higher clock speed, the new OMAP3630 is one of the first platforms to use 45-nanometer manufacturing process(65nm vs the OMAP3430). Shrink in size results in smaller transistors, which consume less energy.

The GPU ran a few benchmarks, almost twice Droid 2 frames per second with the first Droid I found it a little surprising, because both phones have the same GPU, but probably more processor speed and twice the memory(512 MB vs 256 MB) has helped the results.

Most references Quadrant system has been recently, so I checked the scores. Droid 2 scored 1199, which is the highest we have seen on any phone running Android 2.1. Nexus One of the Android 2.1 scores about 500 in the benchmark and that the assessment of the law three times to 1489, when the Android 2.2 is installed .

I hope Droid 2 will run from Android 2.1, and quickly updated to 2.2 When you run Android. The device will be ready to work with both its hardware and software, so I think it is feasible to start in July. Verizon if you really want to wait and run the Droid 2 in August(after Droid X), then I think that is possible, the Motorola Android 2.2 to the end of time.

If you already have a Droid and looking for a new phone, you probably wait until Christmas and see what comes up with Verizon. Motorola says the future of phones will feature front-facing camera and possibly 2 GHz . Droid 2 is a nice refresh, but I do not think new features enough to warrant an upgrade at this time.

For those who are wondering, Droid Droid X and 2 are basically the same phone in the middle. You can take any reference to evaluate and apply them to the Droid X

Users give up the physical keypad in a time of transition to a droid X, but did not get the display 4.3 inch, 8 Megapixel Camera, recording 720p video, and HDMI Micro. If you are looking around media device, the Droid X is a better option.
