Track cell phone locations via GPS tracking technology
Using a cell phone to track your kids via GPS is one of the easiest ways to monitor their location. This is true for two simple reasons. First is because it does not require any special equipment to be installed. Thanks E911, GPS tools are built into all newer models of Cell Phones. Most service providers offer either software-based service or specific models that have GPS tracking via a website. The second reason is that your child wants to carry the phone. Most kids and teens keep their phones on them at all times and, unlike a GPS watch, it will not be obvious to their friends that tracking is occurring. This helps to avoid the taint of uncool that most children avoid like the Black Death.
The new cell phones GPS tracking technology allows the phone company and 911 dispatchers to accurate locate your cell phones to less 100 feet in most outdoor environments however if you live and work within the deep canyons of an urban setting the accuracy will be degraded to 300 feet or more. Buildings that do not allow good cell phones coverage will obviously prevent cell phones tracking. In addition if are located within area that blocks cell phones service.
Glympse is an online Gps Cell phones tracker that is currently 100% free. After you register online, you install the InstaMapper application to a GPS-enabled cell phones. Then, when you log on to the website, an interactive Google Map will appear with the location of the cell phones. The map's details are updated every few seconds, with a moving dot on the map representing the GPS cell phones, so it is pretty close to real-time tracking. You can even embed your location to your personal blog, web page or social networking site, which is a fun feature if you are traveling abroad and your friends and family want to keep tabs on you.
Recently a woman lost control of her car while on our local interstate ending up deep within the heavily treed median. She was trapped in the vehicle but was able to call 911 for assistance. Unfortunately she was unable to tell the dispatcher exactly where she was. State troopers and sheriff deputies spent time looking for her but her vehicle was not visible from the Interstate. Fortunately dispatch was able to access the GPS cell phones tracking information for her phone. Troopers were able to locate exactly where she was located and she was extricated from here vehicle and taken to the local hospital.
As a user, you carry your cell phone with you. The cell phone tracking software uses the tracking technology to calculate your position and records it on a central server. So you can see your location on a map and your friends and family see you too.
Finally, finding your friends with GPS and broadcasting your position seems very handy at first, but may take you to the boundaries of privacy. If you are considering sharing your location or asking your loved ones to be visible all the time to you, then be sure to talk with them and decide what is and is not acceptable. If not, privacy concerns are inevitable.
