JUPITER JACK--A HANDS FREE CELL PHONE ACCESSORY
One thing I’m not...and that’s a techie. This little gadget is for answering and talking on your cell phone while operating your vehicle. The device itself plugs into the headset jack of your cell phone, sends the call signal from your cell to your car radio, and you hear your caller though your automobile speakers. Imagine! Your mother-in-law in surround sound! (Couldn’t resist!)
To operate the JUPITER JACK attach to the phone by inserting the prong into the headset jack (you may have to use one of the six supplied adaptors), turn on your phone, and then turn on the Jupiter Jack. I understand that there are now two frequency options to set your car radio to, 99.3 and 101.3 FM instead of just the original 99.3. Choose the one that has the least amount of static interference and make a “preset” on your radio for that frequency. You are now ready to receive calls and converse hands free with your Jupiter Jack.
IS IT AS ADVERTISED?
Let’s assume that it works as advertised. The directions aren’t confusing, so set-up is easy. Your cell phone rings, sings, orchestrates or whatever else, you touch the preset on your radio to tune to 99.3, and you’re ready to hear your mother-in-law in stereo.

JUPITER JACK MINUSES
1. Static and Interference. Even with the choice of two frequencies, this seems to be the chief drawback with the product. I don’t know how many of these have been sold and are being used successfully, but the functionality appears to depend on the signal strength of the local radio stations whose frequencies are close to the one your trying to operate your Jupiter Jack on.
2. No privacy. Because you are conversing using your car’s radio, your passengers are privy to your being chewed out again by your mother-in-law.
WOULD I BUY THE JUPITER JACK?
Again, I’m not a techie, so here’s the deal. There are other reliable alternatives to the Jupiter Jack. First, you can just turn on the the speaker function on your cell and put it in some sort of dash mounted holder. But, there’s no privacy there either. Then, you could just get an ear bud that plugs into your cell jack. Inexpensive, but you have a wire to get tangled up in. Or, you could just get a Blu Tooth. You can get one now for well under fifty bucks and they are extremely reliable. Only downside other than the cost is the thingy hanging on your ear. So, if conversing on my cell while driving was a necessity and privacy was not an issue, the JUPITER JACK might be a good way to go.
