Acura's 2007 Rdx Reviewed in a Comparison Test
With the same quality type of Acura Legend performance parts, the 2007 Acura RDX has decreased weight, thereby increasing fuel economy. And the weight trimming was done through fitting the RDX with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, its first forced-induction anything.
The 2007 RDX has a four-banger costing close to 40 grand. But the RDX existed as the lightest member of the trio in the comparison test, and its 6.5-second sprint to 60 mph makes it an Olympic setter in the world of SUVs. However, the BMW X3, which is more potent with a 20hp, matched the RDX’s quarter-mile trap speed. Moreover, the BMW was a 10th ahead by the time both were humping along at 100 mph. The RDX’s observed fuel economy was 3 mpg worse than the hype BMW’s.
Another target of Acura was to charge the RDX with the driving pleasure that is offered by the TSX sedan. Fortunately, the brand was successful in such goal. Light and sharp steering is attained with right-now turn-in and you always know what the front tires are up to. As to the handling, the RDX exuded controlled body motions and was more solidly planted in turns than many automobiles. It had the greatest skidpad grip as well as the highest speed through an emergency-lane-change test. Its transmission offers only five choices but the manumatic (combination of manual and automatic) paddles behind the steering wheel functioned so instantly and intensely that the testers batted at them constantly, as if playing Ping-Pong.
The 2007 Acura RDX has the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive that directs power to the outside rear wheel in corners to prevent premature under steer. The car emerged as the sports car in this group, both gratifying and fun around the testing arena with the most aggressively bolstered seats.
All those experienced excellent handlings and other essential features are summed up to an excellent driving experience with the 2007 Acura RDX.
The testers were particularly impressed of what slid behind the four teeth that snuggle in the Acura’s grille. The RDX has two cylinders and a pair of balance shafts, and the four-banger still transmits small shivers up the steering column. Unfortunately, at idle and 70-mph cruise, the RDX was the noisiest in this trio.
