Rubber Wristbands Remain Really Reliable Revenue Raising Resources

Rubber wristbands are THE hot pop culture fad – of 2004. Since their meteoric rise that year as a result of the introduction of the yellow "Livestrong" band, the appeal of rubber wristbands has cooled a bit. But what many people don't realize is that the simple little wristbands remain a powerful fundraising and awareness tool for many schools, nonprofits and social causes worldwide.

The rubber wristbands became an instant sensation, first among Armstrong's fellow cyclists, then other athletes, then the public at large.

In a world where nothing succeeds like imitation, other organizations quickly introduced their own awareness rubber wristbands in different colors to represent their own causes. Breast cancer organizations, for example, sold pink rubber wristbands, and AIDS awareness groups sold red ones.

But as the rubber wristbands proliferated, the world proved to have more worthy causes than it did available wristband colors. Consequently, most colors now represent more than one cause. The only sure way to know what a particular wristband represents today is to ask the person wearing it.

Sure, the popularity of rubber wristbands has declined a bit in recent years. But as many schools, nonprofit organizations and even businesses have discovered, they still can be powerful marketing tools.

For school fundraising, rubber wristbands are hard to beat. They can be sold at a price low enough that just about any student who wants one can have it. They help boost school spirit among students, faculty and staff. And they're fun to wear.

Businesses can use rubber wristbands to market new products or services, giving them away by the hundreds to build brand awareness and recognition. Or they can adopt a social cause that their business supports and use the rubber wristbands as a way to demonstrate that support to the community.

Rubber wristbands also have struck a responsive chord with bands seeking to increase their exposure. Wristbands imprinted with the band's name and/or logo can be sold as souvenirs, issued as a special bonus for fan club members, or even tossed from the stage into the audience at concerts.

Yes, the popularity of rubber wristbands is probably slightly past its peak. But the wristbands remain a strong contender for fundraising, awareness movements, promotional and marketing purposes.
