Data Cable Scenarios for the Motorola Atrix
This first ever dual-core Smart Phone is one of the best Android-based devices currently available on the market. When a popular cell phone is released there is also a huge assortment of accessories made available and the Atrix is no exception. Most users choose to buy a Screen Protector and/or a case. Other popular accessories include chargers, spare batteries and charms. The most common accessory for any device is an USB cable; users will be happy to learn that the Atrix comes with one in the box. So what is this data cable, why would you want to buy an aftermarket version, and in which scenarios would you use it?
A data cable is a connection between your smart phone to another compatible device, much like a PC or a laptop. In other words, using a data cable is much like using a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi but through a wired connection. The Usb Data Cable has appeal because of how simple it is to use. Now, since Motorola includes one with the Atrix, why would anyone buy an aftermarket cable? Well, there are two reasons. The USB that comes with the phone is micro-USB for the computer. Some users may need to make the connection through a different kind of port, and thus would buy the appropriate cable.
The main reason for purchasing an aftermarket cable is because consumers wish to sync and charge cable. In addition to being a traditional data cable, sync-charge cables allow you to charge the Atrix battery through the USB port. Perhaps the neatest aspect of these sync-charge cables is that you can actually charge the phone and draw power from the USB port while you're transferring and synchronizing your data between the computer and the device. The scenario where this is most convenient is when travelling. You don't have to worry about the Atrix charger if you have a laptop.
One common example of transferring files from the phone to a PC is when you take pictures. Simply connect the mini-USB end to the Motorola Atrix and the micro-USB (wider) end to the PC. A Windows PC will recognize the device and give you access to its internal and external memory via the built-in OS file manager. Users can also choose to use Android-specific file managers. The advantage there is that it has built-in Android tools and it recognizes the Android file structure in a more intelligent way.
Transferring MP3 or other music files is also a common scenario in where the data cable will be needed. You can do this with the method described above, or you can use a program like iTunes or one of the popular Android alternatives, such as doubleTwist. Lastly, Motorola Atrix users will use their data cable to synchronize their calendar, email and contacts between their phone and their computer. The easiest way to accomplish that with a data cable is via Google Gmail.
