A Brief Summary Of The Google Nexus One

A year after the release of G1, Google again has a new smartphone attached to its name, the Google Nexus One.

The Nexus One is actually manufactured by the HTC Company, and not by Google. It is the same Mobile Phone company that manufactured the Google G1. Google was simply the one behind the design and the software integration of the mobile phone.

The Design

The Nexus One is depicted by its detailed design. The mobile phone is very thin with dimensions of 119 by 59.8 by 11.5 millimeters. The edges of the phone are contoured giving it a solid look. The phone comes in a combination of the colors brown and gray with a fine Teflon coating at the back of the phone. The device is also relatively light since it only weighs 130 grams.

The phone does not have physical buttons except for the trackball, Power Button and the volume rocker placed on the left side. There are, however, touch buttons affixed at the bottom of the Touch Screen, the Back, Menu, Home and Search touch buttons.

The Nexus One comes with a large screen that caters to viewing web pages and videos with its 3.7 inch Active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) touch screen that gives bright and crisp images. The AMOLED has a thin-film transistor backplane that will switch pixels on or off.

This screen is claimed to make larger size displays and higher resolutions. The Nexus One displays resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. Although, the multi-touch of the Nexus One in the US needs to be activated by software upgrade, the UK model is already multi-touch capable.

At the bottom part of the phone is the microUSB port while at the back is a 5-megapixel built in camera, with autofocus and smile detection features, and LED flash.

Features

The Nexus One comes with a 1GHz QualComm Snapdragon processor. This processor makes the execution of applications and tasks in the phone run faster. Like every other smartphone, the Nexus One also comes with 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2 Mbps that allows greater download speeds, and WiFi 802.11 b/g that allows faster data connections in hotspots. This permits users to access and browse the internet.

The Nexus One is powered by the Android 2.1 operating system. This operating system is an upgrade from the Android 1.5 with its live wallpapers and new user interface. Applications and widgets run better with the Android 2.1.

The phone also provides predictive text with its built-in dictionary. There's also the voice-to-text feature that allows users to speak messages for texting into the phone. Google, however, admits that it's still not perfectly accurate.

The built-in camera of the Nexus One has better white balance and color saturation when compared to other mobile phones. The video recording is also better since it's near HD quality.

Availability

The Nexus One is already available in the market. Unlocked versions will be shipped to customers in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.
