Electronics Gadgets Powerseller: 3G Tablets Won't Bring In The Green... Just Yet
You don't have to go far to see electronics in some way.
If you are looking for an electronics gadgets that is more portable than a laptop , more comfortable to use than a smartphone but gives more computing power than a netbook - then a tablet would be the perfect device for you. However, a tablet lacks the functions of a cellular phone just like a smartphone would.
This is the grounds why smartphones go on to dominate the outlet and online resellers are having second thoughts if it would be lucrative to add in tablets in their listings. In spite of this, manufacturers are also upgrading their tablet PCs and it would only be a matter of time before tablets are transformed into a complete communications solution and have equivalent functionalities of Cell Phones overstuffed in a complete computing package - and eventually be the hottest selling item online.
The Tablet PC, An Introduction
A tablet PC is basically a portable personal computer that uses a virtual onscreen keyboard instead of a tactile one. Using different operating systems, tablets can be installed with web browsers, games and office suites but the limitations in power in its hardware components make tablets irrelevant for use with powerful applications.
Tablet PCs are equipped with wireless adapters for easy connection to internet or local area networks including easily connect to WiFi hotspots. These tablets are also equipped with 3G (and newer models have 4G) connectivity allowing connection to the mobile network should there be no available WiFi connections.
A tablet PC may cost from as low as 455 US for basic models to as high as 1900 US for the upper end products fortified with more features. Prices continue to drop though as more products and models are introduced in the market. The biggest seller however, is still the Ipad which basically controls 95% of the tablet market with an expected 7.6 Million units sold in 2010 which is projected to jump to 46 million units by 2014 at an annual accumulation of 57.5% According to research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).
There are several other brands and models around in spite of this, many of which are slowly gaining a growing percentage from the total tablet market. Leading among these models is the Lenovo Thinkpad X300 and the Asus Eee PC T91, the same company that kicked off the netbook craze. Other models include the HP Touchsmart, the Dell Latitude and the Samsung Galaxy tablet. These products are equipped with an Intel or AMD Dual Core processors, 8.9" To 12.1" Multi-Touch Screen displays, expandable memory and SD card slots, and long-life batteries.
These tablets are fitted with WiFi connectivity using the 802.11 A/b/g/n values although some models have WiFi plus 3G connectivities using UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHZ) data only frequencies. The 3G connections are for data tasks such as browsing the internet and sending email whenever a WiFi connection is not available but are not yet used for voice communications by means of the tablet.
Trading Tablet PCs Online
Tablet PCs are hot items selling both offline and online, particularly the more affordable entry level tablets that can cost below 500 US. Conversely, these items are either carried by the larger network carriers or are only available through the larger authorized dealers and online stores. This makes it difficult to small and medium resellers to get hold of these items for sale in their own eBay listings or on their own websites and online stores.
However, online resellers can take a look at the products upcoming from China as a lot of people are also looking this way trying to find a good product with the same features as top-selling marquee tablets but merely at a fraction of the price. You'll be surprised to know that there are a wide variety of Chinese versions of these marquee tablets, many of which goes by the name of Apad, ePad, or MaiPad.
These products may give the impression of being precisely the same as marquee tablets but are some differences in the internal functions. Most of these Chinese tablets use the Google Android operating system and have 802.11 B/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity. However, when reselling these products, check if the items have 3G or 4G connectivity as these wireless technologies have merely begun roll out in new markets such as China and India. If your supplier markets these products as having 3G or 4G connectivity, ensure that they have equivalent specifications available in your customers' country or area.
Selling Tablets online may not be a highly lucrative affair for now especially for small or medium online retailers like you. However, the trends in the mobile industry are promising good things to come not only in terms of better and more universal products, but wonderful opportunities for the online retailer as well.
